Four killed, seven injured as speeding lorry hits wedding party near Kambham

In a tragic accident early Friday, four members of a wedding party, including a four-year-old girl, were killed and seven others injured when a speeding lorry collided with them near Kambham in Markapuram district. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on July 3, 2026.

The deceased were identified as Alakananda (19), Ankalu (23), Nagalakshmi (4), and Nagesh (19), all residents of Nallabanda Bazar in Giddaluru town. They had travelled to Kambham to attend a wedding, according to local villagers.

Preliminary reports indicate that the group had stopped at a roadside Vinayaka temple for darshan. A lorry, reportedly speeding and carrying a load of coir from Madanapalle to Wyra, first hit an autorickshaw in which four of them were sitting, and then struck seven others standing near the temple.

Circle Inspector Mallikarjuna and Sub-Inspector Shiva Krishna Reddy arrived at the scene and arranged for the injured to be taken to a hospital in Markapuram. An investigation into the accident has been initiated.

Road accidents involving heavy vehicles remain a significant concern in the region. Authorities urge drivers to adhere to speed limits and exercise caution, especially during early morning hours when visibility may be reduced.
