Four Arrested After Mob Attack on Businessman and Woman in Karnataka
Police in Karnataka have arrested four individuals in connection with a violent incident in Doddaballapura, about 50 km north of Bengaluru, where a group of people allegedly attacked a businessman and his female friend, vandalised property, and molested the woman. The incident, which took place on the night of July 26, has been described as an act of moral policing by the victims.
According to the police, Aravinda Bharadhwaj, a businessman from Rajasthan who operates a unit in Veerapura Industrial Area, was sitting in a car with a female friend near K.G. Kuntehalli lake. A group of locals allegedly confronted them, questioning their presence there. The duo left the spot and drove towards the industrial area, but their car reportedly brushed against a motorcycle, leading to an argument.
The group then allegedly pursued the car to a battery manufacturing unit in Bashettihalli Industrial Area, where they broke open the gate and stormed the factory. Police said around 30 persons pelted the car with cement blocks, damaged CCTV cameras and other property, and assaulted Aravinda, his business partner Anupam Kumar, and employees with machetes, clubs, and knives. The assailants allegedly dragged and molested the woman before fleeing after issuing death threats.
Aravinda sustained injuries to his head, right hand, and leg, while Anupam Kumar suffered knife injuries and multiple abrasions. Several employees sustained minor injuries. Aravinda is undergoing treatment in a private hospital.
Based on Aravinda’s complaint, Doddaballapura Rural Police registered a case under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Harsha, Bharath, Sandeep, Timmaraju, Abhi, Latif, and others. Police have taken four accused into custody and are searching for the remaining suspects.
The incident has raised concerns about moral policing and the safety of individuals in public spaces. Authorities are investigating the case and have assured strict action against the perpetrators.
