Former Kolkata Deputy Mayor Atin Ghosh, Family Booked in ₹4 Crore Property Grab Case

The West Bengal Police have registered a case against former Kolkata Municipal Corporation deputy mayor and former Trinamool Congress MLA Atin Ghosh, his daughter Priyadarshini Ghosh, her husband, and several others for allegedly seizing a prime property in the city. The Bidhannagar North police issued a summons directing them to appear for questioning on June 26.

The case was filed based on a complaint by businesswoman Kamalini Paul, who alleges that the accused forcibly took over a three-storey bungalow on a 2.5-katha plot along the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass. The current market value of the disputed property is estimated at around ₹4 crore. Paul stated that the property was built by her late father and bequeathed to her in his will.

According to Paul, Atin Ghosh, his daughter, and party workers came to her house, intimidated her, and forced her to sign property documents. She claims they took the documents and she has not seen them since. Paul alleged that the family used political influence because the daughter wanted to stay there after marriage.

She further stated that an unwanted advance payment of ₹50 lakh was credited to her bank account despite her refusal to sell. She said she later returned the entire amount with interest, but the Ghosh family blocked her account by reporting fraudulent activity.

Priyadarshini Ghosh has denied all allegations, calling the dispute a legitimate real estate investment. She claimed that Paul cheated them and is exploiting the recent political change in the state to fabricate allegations. She said her father was not involved in the transaction and had never met the complainant.

Priyadarshini stated that they were informed the property belonged to Paul's mother and that mutation papers were in her name. When the bank required additional documents, they were given a legal heirship certificate indicating the entire family as legal heirs. She claimed Paul later asserted a will naming her as the sole heir. She said they paid ₹50 lakh via bank cheque and that Paul failed to secure probate of the will for nine years, delaying the transaction.

Atin Ghosh did not respond to calls or messages from The Indian Express. Police have initiated an investigation and are verifying property deeds, banking transactions, and legal agreements submitted by both parties.
