Former AAP Councillor Tahir Hussain Convicted for Murder of IB Officer in 2020 Delhi Riots

A Delhi court on Monday convicted former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Tahir Hussain and four others in the murder of Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer Ankit Sharma during the 2020 North East Delhi riots. The Karkardooma court found Hussain guilty of murder and other offences related to rioting, but dropped the charge of criminal conspiracy against him.

The court also convicted Nazim, Kashim, Anas and Javed for murder, kidnapping, promoting enmity and rioting. Six other accused were acquitted in the case.

Ankit Sharma, an IB officer, was killed during the communal violence that erupted in North East Delhi in February 2020. His body was recovered from a drain near Chand Bagh after the riots. The court is expected to hear arguments on the quantum of sentence at a later date.
