FBI places Indian national Nitish Kaushal on most wanted list for alleged transnational crimes

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has added Nitish Kaushal, an Indian national, to its list of most wanted criminals. Kaushal is accused of involvement in murder, kidnapping, drug trafficking, and other serious offences linked to the Bhagwanpuria organised crime group.

According to the FBI, Kaushal allegedly carried out acts of violence on behalf of the Bhagwanpuria group, including kidnappings and assaults. The agency stated on Tuesday (July 14, 2026) that Kaushal should be considered armed and dangerous, and an escape risk.

The Bhagwanpuria Organised Crime Group, which originated in the Indian state of Punjab, operates in the Central District of California and elsewhere. The FBI described it as a transnational criminal organisation engaged in murder, kidnapping, drug trafficking, extortion, weapons trafficking, money laundering, and human smuggling.

A federal arrest warrant for Kaushal was issued by the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, Los Angeles, on June 25, 2026, after he was charged with racketeer influenced and corrupt organisations (RICO) conspiracy.

The FBI’s action follows Operation Hard Ball, a coordinated international enforcement effort targeting the Bhagwanpuria gang. The operation involved raids and law enforcement actions across the United States, Canada, and Europe, highlighting the growing international focus on dismantling transnational criminal syndicates with roots in India.

The FBI has urged anyone with information regarding Kaushal to contact the local FBI office, the American Embassy, or consulate.
