Explosion at Qatar Gas Terminal During Restart Kills 0, Injures 54, 18 Missing

An explosion occurred late on Sunday at Qatar's Ras Laffan industrial area, injuring at least 54 people and leaving 18 others missing, authorities said. The facility is a major natural gas export terminal that had been shut down following earlier conflict.

Qatar's Interior Ministry reported the blast took place while workers were attempting to restart operations at the Barzan plant within the complex. The ministry initially stated only a few injuries, but later revised the figures upward.

Ras Laffan, which houses Qatar's primary gas export terminal, was reportedly targeted by Iran during the war, leading to its prolonged closure. The cause of the explosion is under investigation.

Emergency teams are searching for the missing, and hospitals have been placed on alert to treat the injured. No fatalities have been confirmed at this time.
