Ernakulam Police Seize 17 kg of Hybrid Ganja in Major Drug Bust

The anti-narcotic wing of the Ernakulam Rural police on Wednesday seized approximately 17 kg of suspected hybrid ganja from a 39-year-old man, marking one of the largest seizures of this drug variety in the state.

The accused, identified as Ayush, a resident of Arukad in Vypeen, was arrested from Marampilly near Perumbavoor. The contraband is estimated to be worth several crores of rupees. He was apprehended during a check conducted by the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force squad of the Ernakulam Rural police.

Initially, the police recovered 1.25 kg of suspected hybrid ganja from a scooter he was riding. The drugs were concealed inside a plastic cover in the vehicle. Following further questioning, searches were conducted at the flat where he was staying, leading to the recovery of an additional 16 kg of the substance.

Police sources said Ayush had been under surveillance by the anti-narcotic wing for some time and had reportedly moved into the flat a week ago. The market value of the narcotic substance will be determined based on factors including its quality.

This drug bust comes a day ahead of Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala's scheduled visit to Ernakulam to participate in events related to 'Operation Toofan: The Narco Hunt', a statewide anti-narcotic drive.
