England seal series 2-1 despite Rohit Sharma's 138 at Lord's
England defeated India by 27 runs in the third ODI at Lord's on Sunday to clinch the three-match series 2-1. Chasing a daunting target of 388, India came close but fell short, finishing at 361 all out in 48.4 overs.
India's chase was built around a 147-run partnership between captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Rohit scored 138 off 124 balls, his 34th ODI century, becoming the first Indian to score an ODI hundred at Lord's. Gill contributed 77 off 87 balls. However, after Rohit's dismissal in the 39th over, the required rate climbed, and India lost wickets in quick succession.
Virat Kohli scored 74 off 88 balls but struggled to accelerate. He was dismissed by Sam Curran in the 46th over, effectively ending India's hopes. Earlier, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer also fell to Curran in the 44th over.
England's innings was powered by a 192-run opening stand between Ben Duckett (141 off 135) and Jacob Bethell (92 off 98). Their batting set a solid platform, and despite a middle-order slowdown, England posted 388 for 9 in 50 overs.
India's bowling was without Jasprit Bumrah, and the attack struggled for consistency. Arshdeep Singh (0/72), Prince Yadav (1/68), and Gurnoor Brar (0/97) were costly. Prasidh Krishna (2/64) recovered after an expensive start.
The series result gives England a 2-1 win, with India winning the first match and England bouncing back to take the next two.
