Eight Bangladeshi Nationals Detained in Mangaluru for Illegal Stay

The Surathkal police have detained eight Bangladeshi nationals who were working and residing illegally at a construction site in Surathkal, Mangaluru. The arrests were made on Thursday after a raid based on specific intelligence.

Mangaluru City Commissioner of Police Sudheer Kumar Reddy confirmed that the individuals were found to be from Bangladesh and were staying in India without valid documents. The matter has been reported to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Bengaluru, and the eight have been placed in a detention centre on the orders of the FRRO.

During the raid, the police inspected the records of 54 construction workers. Eight were identified as Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally. Their names are: Md Muktar Ali (36), Md Rakibur Hossen (44), Md Ajarul Islam (36), Md Zahid Hosen (18), Md Belal Hossain (36), Md Hasibul Hasan Shanto (37), Md Sameul Hasan (23), and Md Seibur Rahman. All are from the Rajshahi region in Bangladesh.

According to Commissioner Reddy, the individuals entered India illegally about three months ago via Murshidabad in West Bengal, without passports or visas. They allegedly affixed their photographs to Aadhaar cards belonging to residents of Murshidabad and made colour copies, which they used to obtain work. They had been engaged in construction work in Surathkal for the past two months.

The police conducted a thorough examination of the individuals, checking their identification cards, birth certificates, and family records, which confirmed their Bangladeshi nationality. A report has been submitted to the FRRO for further action.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of Mangaluru North Assistant Commissioner of Police Srikanth, with a team led by Surathkal Police Inspector Pramod Kumar, including PSI Raghu Nayak, ASI Rajesh Alva, and other staff.
