EC sets July 30 for bypolls in three states, including Nitin Nabin's former seat
The Election Commission of India on Thursday announced by-elections for three Assembly constituencies across Bihar, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh, with polling scheduled for July 30 and counting on August 3.
The bypolls will be held for the Bankipur seat in Bihar, which fell vacant after BJP president Nitin Nabin resigned following his election to the Rajya Sabha in April. Also included are the Datia seat in Madhya Pradesh, vacated after Congress MLA Rajendra Bhati was disqualified following a criminal conviction, and the Manjalpur seat in Gujarat, where BJP MLA Yogeshbahi Narandas Patel passed away.
According to the EC's schedule, nominations will be accepted from July 6 to July 12, with scrutiny on July 14 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature on July 16. Polling will take place on July 30, and votes will be counted on August 3.
The bypolls are routine electoral exercises to fill vacancies in state legislatures. Voters in these constituencies will elect new representatives to complete the respective tenures.
