DRI Arrests Woman with 5 kg Gold Bars Worth ₹7 Crore on Delhi-Bound Train

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested a woman traveling on a Delhi-bound train from West Bengal after recovering 4.98 kg of gold bars allegedly smuggled from Bangladesh, valued at approximately ₹7.11 crore. The arrest took place at Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction in Uttar Pradesh's Chandauli district.

According to a senior DRI official, the agency received intelligence about a woman carrying a large quantity of smuggled gold on the Brahmaputra Express, which departed from Cooch Behar in West Bengal en route to New Delhi. A DRI team conducted a search and located the woman in an air-conditioned coach when the train reached Chandauli on Wednesday.

During interrogation, the woman reportedly admitted to being a regular carrier of gold bars smuggled from Bangladesh into Indian territory through the Cooch Behar district. The gold bars were seized, and further investigation is underway to identify others involved in the smuggling network.

The DRI has not disclosed the woman's identity at this stage. The agency continues to monitor gold smuggling routes, particularly those originating from Bangladesh, which have been a focus of enforcement action in recent months.
