Doctor Among Two Arrested in Tamil Nadu MLA Bribery Case

Chennai: The Triplicane police on Friday arrested two more individuals, including a doctor, in connection with the alleged attempt to bribe a legislator from the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). This brings the total number of arrests in the case to 11.

The arrests were made following an investigation into financial transactions linked to an alleged conspiracy to induce legislators to defect from the TVK-led government, led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. The case was registered based on a complaint filed by Uthangarai MLA N. Ilaiyaraja, who reported the bribery attempt.

Earlier, police had arrested nine persons, including YouTubers Thirunavukkarasu and Naresh. Five of the accused were subsequently taken into two-day police custody for interrogation, which concluded on Friday.

Based on information gathered during the interrogation, police arrested Dr. Rajasekar of Namakkal and Sethurajan. Investigators alleged that Sethurajan was a close associate of former minister V. Senthil Balaji and a friend of Karthik, one of the previously arrested accused. The probe also revealed financial transactions between Karthik and Sethurajan.

During the investigation, police seized ₹56 lakh from Dr. Rajasekar and ₹14 lakh from Sethurajan. Both accused were produced before a magistrate court and remanded in judicial custody.

The case underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address allegations of political corruption and attempts to destabilize the state government. Further investigations are underway to trace the source of the funds and identify any other individuals involved.
