Delhi University sets up control rooms, warns against AI fraud in admissions
Delhi University (DU) has announced new measures to combat ragging and document fraud ahead of the upcoming academic session. The university will establish two joint control rooms to monitor anti-ragging violations, and has issued a warning against the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to tamper with admission documents.
As of Monday evening, 45,316 candidates had confirmed their admissions by paying fees. The deadline for acceptance and fee payment is 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday. The second merit list will be released on July 25, and the session begins on July 28.
DU Proctor Professor Manoj Kumar Singh held a meeting with college principals, hostel authorities, student union representatives, and police to discuss ragging prevention. Following the meeting, an official stated that two joint control rooms will monitor compliance with anti-ragging rules. Additionally, campuses and colleges will display banners and posters listing penalties for ragging, which include suspension, expulsion, cancellation of admission and degree, withholding results, and debarment from classes.
On Sunday, the admissions branch cautioned applicants against submitting AI-generated or digitally altered documents. Students have been advised to upload scanned copies of original documents, such as marksheets and identity proofs, without modifications. The university will use advanced verification tools to detect alterations, and non-compliance may lead to cancellation of admission.
Dean of Admissions Haneet Gandhi noted that many submitted documents were found to be fake or altered, with some marks changed using AI. The university is exploring the development of a digital tool to verify documents for future admission cycles.
