Delhi to Cap E-Rickshaw Numbers at 2.5 Lakh, Mandates Registration

The Delhi government is planning a new policy to regulate e-rickshaws in the city, aiming to cap their number and enforce mandatory registration, official sources said. The Transport department has proposed a cap of 2.5 lakh e-rickshaws in Delhi. Currently, over 2 lakh e-rickshaws are registered, but unofficial estimates suggest the actual number on roads is significantly higher. The policy is intended to reduce accidents and streamline movement.

The move comes after a rise in accidents involving e-rickshaws, highlighting the need for regulation. The government aims to balance the benefits of eco-friendly transport with public safety and traffic management.
