Delhi Police Gets New Commissioner: Anurag Kumar Replaces Satish Golcha

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Friday removed Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha and appointed Anurag Kumar, a 1994-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the AGMUT cadre, as the new chief. The appointment is for a term of three years, according to the MHA order.

The order stated that Anurag Kumar will assume charge from the date of taking over and will serve until further orders. Satish Golcha has been directed to report to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi for further posting after the new commissioner takes charge.

Golcha had been appointed as Delhi Police commissioner on August 22, 2025, a day after Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked by a man during a public meeting at her residence. He replaced SBK Singh, who had been holding additional charge as Delhi Police commissioner since August 1, 2025. Singh is the Director General of Home Guards.

The sudden change in leadership comes amid heightened focus on law and order in the national capital. The MHA has not provided specific reasons for the change, but such administrative reshuffles are routine in government postings.

Anurag Kumar, a seasoned IPS officer with extensive experience in policing and internal security, will now lead the Delhi Police force. His appointment is expected to bring continuity and stability to the department.
