Delhi Doctor Accused of Killing House Help; Wife Says She Did Not Anticipate Violence

A 45-year-old house help was allegedly killed by her employer, a dermatologist, in South Delhi's Kailash Hills area on Wednesday. The accused, Dr Manish Gupta, who runs a dental clinic near his residence in Mount Kailash, was arrested on Thursday.

According to the police, the incident occurred after a dispute over cleaning. Dr Gupta had been asking his wife, Tina, to fire the victim, Meena, for the past two to three years, claiming she was not cleaning the house properly. However, Tina refused to dismiss her. On Wednesday, the doctor allegedly beat Meena with a bat and then stabbed her, leading to her death.

Tina told the police that she never realized her husband would be so 'triggered' by her decision not to fire the help. 'Dr Gupta had requested his wife to fire Meena, but she refused. He never made a fuss about it and did not confront Meena either. Tina said she did not sense that he would react so violently,' a senior police officer said.

The police have registered a case of murder and are investigating the matter. Dr Gupta has been taken into custody and will be produced before a court.
