Delhi CM Inaugurates Two New Bridges Over Ghazipur Drain and Hindon Canal to Boost East Delhi Connectivity
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday inaugurated two newly constructed two-lane slip road bridges over the Ghazipur Drain and Hindon Canal in east Delhi’s Kondli area. The new bridges are expected to significantly improve road connectivity for residents of the Trilokpuri, Kondli, and Patparganj Assembly constituencies, offering smoother movement and a more convenient traffic system.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the construction of these bridges will provide thousands of residents with better road connectivity, smoother movement, and a more efficient traffic network. The project will also play an important role in strengthening connectivity in the area and making movement easier for daily commuters.
Speaking at the inauguration, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the Delhi government is focused on developing infrastructure that directly and widely benefits the common people. "Strengthening the road network, reducing traffic pressure and ensuring better connectivity between different parts of Delhi are among the government’s priorities," she said. "The Kondli project is another important step towards a better-connected, smoother and more developed Delhi. Work is being carried out continuously across different parts of Delhi to improve road infrastructure while also ensuring safe and smooth traffic movement."
The areas served by these bridges – Trilokpuri, Kondli, and Patparganj – are densely populated residential and commercial zones in East Delhi. The new slip roads are designed to ease the flow of traffic, allowing commuters to enter and exit main roads without causing disruption. This is expected to reduce travel time and improve the overall commuting experience for thousands of residents who travel across the city daily.
In her address, Ms. Gupta also spoke about the broader challenge of waterlogging in Delhi, which has been a persistent issue during the monsoon season. She acknowledged that the city had long needed modernisation of its drainage system. "Despite growing population and changing needs, adequate attention was not given to the improvement, desilting and maintenance of old drains and the drainage network," she said. "This resulted in waterlogging and inconvenience to citizens during the rains. The present government is working to strengthen the drainage system and find a permanent solution to the problem of waterlogging."
The inauguration of the bridges over the Ghazipur Drain and Hindon Canal is seen as a step towards addressing both traffic and drainage-related concerns in the region. The CMO emphasised that the government is committed to developing infrastructure that directly benefits citizens and supports the city's long-term growth.
