Delhi car crash: Belagavi MLA Abhay Patil, Kirari MLA Anil Jha stable after accident
Belagavi Dakshin MLA Abhay Patil was among six people injured in a road accident in New Delhi on Sunday night. The incident occurred near the PWD office under the jurisdiction of the I.P. Estate police station in central Delhi, Delhi Police said in a statement.
According to police, a hatchback first hit a divider, then crossed the railing and collided with the SUV in which Mr. Patil was travelling in the opposite direction. The impact left both vehicles damaged, and six people sustained injuries.
Mr. Patil, a Bharatiya Janata Party legislator from Karnataka, was in the SUV along with Anil Jha, the MLA from Kirari assembly constituency in Delhi. The other vehicle, a hatchback, was occupied by Ashutosh Pandey, 32, his wife, and their two children.
Police and fire brigade personnel reached the spot shortly after the accident and carried out rescue operations. The injured were immediately taken to Loknayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital for medical treatment.
Health officials said that all those injured in the accident suffered minor injuries and that none of them were seriously hurt. The condition of all six individuals is reported to be stable, and they are presently out of danger.
Delhi Police said that the spot was inspected in the wake of the accident and that an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the incident. The statement added that necessary legal action will follow based on the findings.
Mr. Patil, who represents the Belagavi Dakshin constituency in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, has been a prominent political figure in the region. Mr. Jha, a first-time MLA from Delhi's Kirari seat, is also known for his work in the national capital.
The accident has drawn attention to road safety concerns in the national capital, though police have yet to indicate any specific violation that may have led to the crash. Officials are also examining whether negligence or a mechanical failure played a role.
The timely response by emergency services was credited with preventing more serious consequences. Both the police and the fire brigade teams worked together to ensure that the injured received swift medical attention.
News of the incident spread quickly on social media, with several political leaders and well-wishers wishing the MLAs a speedy recovery. The public has been advised to await the official investigation report for a clear understanding of what transpired.
As of now, no formal complaint has been filed by either party, and police are recording statements from the witnesses and the injured. Further details are expected once the investigation progresses.
