Deadline for Ola, Uber, Rapido: Comply by Sept 1 or Face Penalty in Maharashtra
The Maharashtra government has issued a directive giving app-based ride-hailing services, including Ola, Uber, and Rapido, until September 1 to comply with the state's aggregator norms. Failure to do so will result in penal action, the state transport department has warned.
According to the directive, all aggregator entities operating in Maharashtra must complete registration under the Maharashtra Aggregator Policy, 2025, and the Maharashtra Motor Vehicle Aggregator Rules, 2026. This includes obtaining licences exclusively from the state transport authority and implementing a system to handle ride cancellations.
The government emphasised that companies operating without prescribed registration or flouting the norms will face strict action. The deadline gives aggregators one month to finish all procedures and documentation required for compliance.
The move is part of Maharashtra's efforts to regulate the ride-hailing sector and ensure fair practices for both drivers and passengers. The ride cancellation system, in particular, has been a contentious issue, with complaints from users about arbitrary cancellations and penalties.
