Dakshina Kannada Khazi Thwaka Ahmed Musliyar passes away at 70

Thwaka Ahmed Musliyar, the Khazi of Dakshina Kannada district, passed away in Mangaluru on Tuesday. He was 70.

Musliyar had been serving as the district's chief Muslim cleric since 2010, overseeing religious affairs for over 200 Muslim congregations (jammats) in Dakshina Kannada and neighbouring Kerala. He also served as president of the Kasaragod district unit of a religious organisation.

His funeral will take place on Wednesday at Kashi Patna, near Moodbidri.

Condolences poured in from political and community leaders. Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said in a social media post that Musliyar's religious teachings and contributions to society would always be remembered.

Mangaluru MLA and Health Minister U. T. Khader noted that Musliyar guided the Muslim community for many years and dedicated his life to religion, education and social work.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president B.K. Hariprasad described his death as an irreplaceable loss not only to the Muslim community but to society at large, highlighting his role in religious awakening and social service.

Musliyar was widely respected for promoting inter-community harmony and peace, as well as for his emphasis on education and moral guidance.
