Cyberabad Agencies Unite to Fix Potholes, Waterlogging and Traffic Bottlenecks Before Monsoon
As the monsoon continues to challenge the city's infrastructure, the Cyberabad Police and civic agencies have resolved to work together to address recurring problems such as waterlogging, potholes, traffic congestion, and other infrastructure issues. A convergence meeting was convened at the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate on Monday, August 10, 2026, to review the situation and chart a coordinated action plan. The joint initiative aims to minimise public inconvenience and ensure safer roads during heavy rains.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Cyberabad Police, Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC), Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB), Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL), Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC), and several other departments. Cyberabad Police Commissioner M. Ramesh chaired the session, with CMC Commissioner Srijana, HMWS&SB Managing Director Ashok Reddy, TGSPDCL CMD Jitesh V. Patil, and TGIIC Vice-Chairman and Managing Director K. Shashanka among the key participants. Traffic police officers and departmental representatives were also present.
During the meeting, officials conducted a joint review of ongoing road improvement works, the current traffic management system, and the level of monsoon preparedness in the commissionerate. The CMC and Traffic Police jointly identified stretches of road that require immediate repair, particularly those with badly damaged surfaces and potholes. They also shortlisted locations where free-lefts are needed or need to be improved, enabling smoother movement at congested junctions. The departments also agreed to conduct regular joint inspections to monitor the progress of the identified works.
The Traffic Police drew attention to several spots that are vulnerable to waterlogging during heavy rainfall and stressed the need for preventive action to avoid traffic disruption. The demand for new traffic signals at important junctions and the repair of existing non-functional signals was also taken up for discussion. In addition, several stretches were identified for the development or improvement of footpaths to ensure the safety of pedestrians. Officials noted that pedestrian safety is a major concern on stretches where footpaths are missing or encroached upon.
CMC Commissioner Srijana assured the police that the shortcomings identified during the joint exercise would be taken up on a priority basis, and rectification works would be completed at the earliest. She also called for enhanced coordination among all agencies, including HMWS&SB, TGSPDCL, HYDRAA, TGIIC, HGCL, Roads and Buildings, NHAI, and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, to ensure timely execution of the works.
Cyberabad Police Commissioner M. Ramesh directed all stakeholders to work in close cooperation with the Traffic Police in identifying and resolving infrastructure issues that impact traffic flow. He stressed the need for time-bound action on matters such as free-lefts, pothole repairs, road widening, relocation of electrical poles and other utilities blocking carriageways, and measures to prevent waterlogging.
Mr. Ramesh further emphasised the importance of regular field inspections and joint reviews, with priority given to locations that experience frequent congestion, bottlenecks, accidents, and public inconvenience. He said that resolving these infrastructure problems in a coordinated manner would improve road capacity, reduce travel delays and congestion, and enhance safety for motorists and pedestrians. The collaborative efforts are expected to ease commuting difficulties for residents and office-goers in the Cyberabad area during the monsoon season. The departments have also agreed to hold follow-up meetings to review the implementation of the action plan.
