CWG 2026 Day 7: India Eyes More Medals as Sreeshankar, Sanjana Lead Charge

On Wednesday, Day 7 of the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, the Indian contingent aims to build on a productive Day 6 that added two silver medals to the tally. The day presents multiple podium opportunities across athletics, weightlifting, para sports, and boxing.

India’s current medal tally stands at 2 gold, 5 silver, and 3 bronze. Gold medalists include Mirabai Chanu in weightlifting and Sharmila Dhankar in para athletics. The silver medals were won in weightlifting, athletics, and para sports, while bronze medals came in para powerlifting, weightlifting, and para athletics.

The spotlight on Day 7 falls on 2022 silver medallist Murali Sreeshankar in the men’s long jump final, alongside Lokesh Satyanathan. Parul Chaudhary competes in the women’s 3000m steeplechase final. In weightlifting, Sanjana vies for a medal in the women’s 77kg final. Later in the evening, Manpreet Kaur features in the women’s shot put final.

Boxing offers strong medal prospects: six Indian pugilists—Sakshi Choudhary, Arundhati Choudhary, Sachin Siwach, Ankush Yadav, Narender Berwal, and Jaismine Lamboria—compete in quarterfinal bouts. A win guarantees at least a bronze medal. In para athletics, Devender Kumar, Sagar Thayat, Mohammed Basil M, and Dilip Mahadu Gavit are also in action.

The day’s schedule includes heats and finals in swimming, athletics, and para swimming. Sajan Prakash and Aneesh S Gowda compete in the men’s 200m freestyle heats, with a potential final if they qualify. Tajinderpal Singh Toor and Samardeep Singh Gill participate in men’s shot put qualifying. Suyash Narayan Jadhav and Chaitanya Vishwas Kulkarni race in para swimming heats.

Live streaming of the Commonwealth Games 2026 is available on Sony LIV, with broadcasts on Sony Sports Network and Doordarshan Sports.

India’s medal hopefuls will strive to improve the nation’s standing as the Games progress. The next few days remain critical for the contingent to maximize medal counts across disciplines.
