Custodial Death Probe: Andhra Govt Forms SIT in Sai Krishna Case
The Andhra Pradesh government on Sunday constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the alleged custodial death of Gade Sai Krishna in the NTR Police Commissionerate. Chief Secretary G. Sai Prasad issued the order, which was made public on June 21, 2026.
The SIT is headed by Inspector General of Police M. Ravi Prakash. Its members include West Godavari District Superintendent of Police Adnan Naveen Asmi, Alluri Sitarama Raju District Superintendent of Police Amit Bardar, and Bapatla District Additional SP (Administration) L. Sudhakar.
According to the government order, the SIT will investigate illegal detention, custodial torture, murder, and the screening of evidence in connection with Sai Krishna's death. The team has been placed outside the administrative control of the NTR Police Commissionerate to ensure an impartial and transparent inquiry.
The case was initiated based on a complaint filed by Sai Krishna's mother, G. Vijaya Lakshmi, against Krishnalanka Circle Inspector S.S. V.V. Nagaraju. The SIT head is authorised to requisition staff, technical assistance, and forensic support from the police or any other government department.
The SIT will exercise powers under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. The Director General of Police (DGP) has been directed to provide logistical support, office accommodation, infrastructure, and other facilities for an expeditious and effective investigation, the order stated.
