CRPF to Review RAF Use of Pellet Guns After Anti-NEET Protest Called Off
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will conduct a 'professional post-event assessment' of the action taken by its Rapid Action Force (RAF) during the anti-NEET protest, Director General Gyanendra Pratap Singh said on Monday. The announcement comes after the protest was called off and demonstrators dispersed.
Speaking to ANI, Mr. Singh stated that the assessment is a standard procedure following major operations. 'Now, since agitation has been called off and assembled people have dispersed, we would make a professional post-event assessment, as we do after every major assignment, and then let you know the view of the force headquarters,' he said.
The review will examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged use of pellet guns by RAF personnel during the march towards Parliament on July 20. Officials said the analysis will assess whether the use of force complied with established protocols. More than 47 RAF personnel were also injured during the incident, some seriously.
The Delhi Police and RAF employed tear gas, baton charges, and other crowd-control measures to manage the situation. Protesters reported injuries from pellet gun fire, leading to calls for an investigation. The CRPF headquarters will release its official findings after the assessment is complete.
An official requesting anonymity said, 'Initial findings are known, but a final report will be available only after a comprehensive investigation and review.' The assessment is part of routine measures adopted by the force post-assignment.
