Cracks Appear on Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway 12 Days After Inauguration, Repair Begins

The Lucknow-Kanpur Greenfield National Elevated Expressway, built at a cost of Rs 4,200 crore, has developed cracks on a section near Korari village in Unnao, just 12 days after its inauguration. The expressway was inaugurated on July 13 by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Union Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari.

Visuals from the site on July 25 showed a five-to-seven-metre stretch of the road had caved in, prompting concerns over construction quality. Samajwadi Party leader Madhusudan Yadav, who shared a video of the damage, said he noticed the cracks while travelling on the expressway. He alleged corruption in the project, stating that such cracks could lead to accidents.

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials have not yet commented on the issue. Repair work has reportedly begun after the video drew attention. The expressway is a key infrastructure project intended to ease travel between Lucknow and Kanpur.
