Congress MP Sudhakaran Unconditionally Apologises to Kerala High Court Over Remarks

Congress MP K. Sudhakaran on Monday tendered an unconditional apology to the Kerala High Court for remarks he made about a division bench of the court. The apology was submitted in an affidavit in response to a contempt of court petition filed against him.

The remarks concerned a division bench that had quashed a single judge's order directing a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the murder of Youth Congress leader S.P. Shuhaib. The contempt petition alleged that Mr. Sudhakaran's statements amounted to an 'imputation against the judiciary'.

In his affidavit, Mr. Sudhakaran admitted to making derogatory statements against the High Court at a public function. He characterised the remarks as 'of a purely momentary and impulsive nature and were not the result of calculated, malicious intent'. The alleged statement was made while he was inaugurating a protest march by Congress workers to the Chavakkad police station.

The Kerala High Court is yet to pass orders on the contempt petition. The case highlights the ongoing tension between political leaders and the judiciary over comments made during public events.
