Congress leaders detained during protest outside PM Modi's residence over NEET issue

New Delhi: High drama unfolded outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence on Tuesday as Congress leaders, led by Rahul Gandhi, attempted to hold a sit-in protest. The protest was in response to the NEET (UG) paper leak issue and demanded the resignations of Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

According to reports, the Congress leadership had announced an indefinite protest, calling on the public to join. Several opposition party leaders also participated. The protestors tied plastic bands around their hands and raised slogans against the government's handling of the NEET paper leak.

The government sent Union Minister Jitendra Singh and Home Secretary Govind Mohan to persuade the Congress to call off the protest, citing the high-security nature of the area. However, the Congress rejected the request. Singh later stated that the government had agreed to discuss the NEET issue in Parliament, but the Congress changed its demand to the resignation of Minister Pradhan.

Delhi Police eventually detained Rahul Gandhi and other leaders. The Congress claimed that Rahul Gandhi sustained a nose injury while in police custody. Separately, party MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was seen attempting to resist detention by holding onto a bus door during the removal of protestors.

This protest came a day after the 'Cockroach Janta Party' (CJP) held a march to Parliament demanding Pradhan's resignation over the NEET paper leak. That march turned violent, resulting in injuries to both protestors and security personnel.

The incident has escalated political tensions, with the Congress accusing the government of suppressing dissent and the government accusing the Congress of disrupting law and order. The opposition has called for a parliamentary discussion on the NEET issue, while the government maintains it has already taken steps to address the matter.

As of now, no official confirmation of Rahul Gandhi's injury has been provided by independent sources. The Congress has stated it will pursue legal recourse against the detention. The government has not commented on the specific allegations of injury.
