Congress accuses Puducherry government of failing to curb illegal pharma firms

The Congress party has criticised the ruling AINRC-BJP coalition in Puducherry for not taking adequate action against illegal pharmaceutical companies operating in the Union Territory.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee chief V. Vaithilingam stated that since the AINRC-BJP combine came to power, multiple cases of spurious drug manufacturing have emerged in Puducherry.

Last year, police busted illegal drug manufacturing units and made arrests; the case was later handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Now, another case involving an illegal drug manufacturing firm has surfaced. Reports suggest that illegally manufactured drugs from Puducherry were being smuggled to foreign countries, Vaithilingam said.

“Several of the accused arrested in the first case have been released on bail. The government has failed to prevent culprits from using Puducherry’s territory for such illegal activities,” he added.

Separately, Vaithilingam said the Congress party would vigorously raise the issue of the NEET paper leak in Parliament. “We will continue to raise the issue until the Education Minister resigns,” he said.
