Colombia Calls for Temporary US Tariff Suspension to Aid Earthquake Recovery

In a post on social media platform X, President de la Espriella said he asked Mr. Trump to consider a temporary suspension of the higher tariffs on Colombian goods. "I asked him to consider to temporarily suspend the high tariffs that are affecting Colombian products, in order to give some relief to our business owners, who are facing very difficult times due to the effects of the earthquake," he wrote.
The tariffs on Colombian products were raised from 10 per cent to 12.5 per cent in late July, with some exceptions, including coffee and oil. The increase was part of broader trade measures implemented by the Trump administration, which have affected several countries.
