Cody Gakpo Scores Emotional World Cup Goal Days After Losing Unborn Son

Netherlands forward Cody Gakpo scored the opening goal in the 72nd minute of their World Cup match against Morocco, just two days after he and his partner Noa van der Bij lost their unborn son during pregnancy.

In a post on Instagram, Van der Bij shared the news: "With broken hearts, we share the devastating news that our baby boy passed away during pregnancy. Thank you for your love and support. Elijah Raphael Gakpo. Forever loved. Forever our son."

She added that they went to church to light a candle and later walked to the church playground with their son Samuel. There, they met a child named Elijah, which she described as a sign that their son is never far away.

Gakpo's goal, his third of the tournament, helped the Netherlands secure a 2-0 victory over Morocco. He dedicated the goal to his family.
