Chittoor School Hosts Awareness Drive on Sickle Cell Anaemia for Girls
An awareness programme on sickle cell anaemia was conducted at the Government Tribal Welfare Girls’ Hostel in Chittoor on Saturday, with health officials stressing the importance of early screening and timely medical intervention.
District Medical and Health Officer Naga Sashibhushan Reddy addressed the students and staff, explaining that sickle cell anaemia is an inherited blood disorder, not a contagious disease. He outlined its symptoms, diagnostic tests, preventive measures, and the need for healthy lifestyle practices.
Field staff discussed the role of balanced nutrition, regular health check-ups, and government programmes aimed at eliminating the disease. They advised students to consult a doctor immediately or inform their wardens if they notice any suspicious symptoms.
