Char Dham Yatra Restarts After Rain-Landslide Suspension in Uttarakhand
The Char Dham Yatra, temporarily suspended as a precaution due to heavy rain and landslides, resumed on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, according to official sources. The pilgrimage had been halted on Monday, July 20, after a review of travel routes deemed them unsafe because of weather conditions.
Garhwal Commissioner Anand Swaroop confirmed that the Yatra is now operating smoothly in coordination with district administrations, police, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and other relevant departments. He stated that travel routes are being continuously monitored, with special vigilance in vulnerable areas prone to landslides and flash floods.
Mr. Swaroop appealed to pilgrims to follow safety protocols. If a route is temporarily blocked due to rain, landslides, or other reasons, pilgrims should proceed to designated 'holding areas' identified by the administration and follow instructions from authorities. The journey will only continue after conditions are deemed safe.
Emphasising that pilgrim safety is the top priority, the commissioner said all departments have been instructed to maintain constant surveillance of weather and route conditions, enabling immediate action if necessary. The Yatra, which includes visits to Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath, draws thousands of devotees annually and is especially sensitive to monsoon-related disruptions.
