Centre Urges States to Scale Up Electric Cooking and Mobility for Net Zero Goal
The Union government has called upon all states, including Telangana, to promote large-scale adoption of electric cooking and electric mobility as part of India's clean energy transition. The appeal was made at a national workshop on Renewable Consumption Obligation held in Hyderabad on Sunday.
Milind Deore, Secretary of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency under the Ministry of Power, stated that India had achieved 297.37 GW of installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel sources as of June 30. This amounts to nearly 59.5% of the country's target of 500 GW by 2030.
Describing electric cooking and electric mobility as key pillars of India's long-term energy strategy, Deore said electric cooking could reduce household cooking costs by 25-35% while lowering dependence on imported LPG and LNG. He stressed the need to promote affordable, energy-efficient and safe cooking technologies and advocated the distribution of induction cooktops to households, institutions and anganwadi centres.
Deore also appreciated Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) for its work in promoting clean energy through the distribution of induction cooktops and utensils across states.
