Centre to Table Anti-Paper Leak Bill with Tough Penalties in Lok Sabha
The Union government is set to introduce the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 in the Lok Sabha on Monday, 27 July 2026, as part of its efforts to curb paper leaks in competitive examinations.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh will table the Bill, which includes stringent penal provisions to deal with cases of paper leaks. According to the listed agenda for the Lok Sabha, after introduction, Singh will also move the Bill for passage.
The Bill aims to deter unfair practices in public examinations by imposing strict punishments on individuals and organised groups involved in leaking question papers. This comes in the wake of several high-profile paper leak incidents in recent years that disrupted exams and affected lakhs of students.
Separately, leaders of Opposition parties in both Houses of Parliament are scheduled to meet at 10 am on Monday at the Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition's office to coordinate their strategy for the remainder of the Monsoon Session.
The introduction of the Bill is expected to be a key legislative business for the day, with the government emphasising the need for swift action to restore trust in the examination system.
