CCTV Footage Triggers Massive Search Operation in J&K's Rajouri District
JAMMU: Security forces launched a large-scale search operation in multiple villages in the Thanamandi area of Rajouri district on Tuesday, following CCTV footage that captured two suspected militants moving in the area late Sunday night. The footage, which went viral on social media Monday night, prompted a joint operation involving the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police's Special Operations Group (SOG), and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Officials said the joint teams fanned out across Bhanghai Top and adjoining villages to track the suspects. The fresh searches are part of the ongoing Operation Sheruwali, a joint combing operation underway since May 23 in the forested Dorimal-Gambhir-Mughlan belt in Rajouri's Manjakote sector, targeting a group of two to three elusive militants.
In a separate incident in Samba district, a resident of Chak Salaria found a drone in an agricultural field near Devak early Tuesday during a morning walk. He alerted a nearby Army unit, and security forces swiftly arrived to seize the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). Officials stated the drone has been sent for forensic examination to determine its technical specifications, including payload capacity. A detailed investigation is underway to ascertain its origin and possible cross-border links.
These developments come amid heightened security in the Jammu region following multiple infiltration attempts and drone activities along the Line of Control (LoC). Security forces remain on high alert to prevent any militant attacks or cross-border smuggling.
