CBSE Class 10 Supplementary Exam Results Announced After Two-Month Delay

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced the results of the Class 10 supplementary examinations on Saturday evening. The exams, held from May 15 to May 21, were intended to allow students to improve their scores, but the two-month wait for results has caused concern among students and parents.

A total of 6,63,777 candidates appeared for the supplementary exams. Of the 5,13,955 students who took the improvement exam, 59.95% improved their scores. Meanwhile, 1,49,822 students appeared for the compartment exam, with a pass rate of 52.40%.

Many students delayed joining their new classes in the hope that improved scores would secure them a seat in their preferred stream. For example, Lingeshwaran, now in Class 11, stayed home for over a month waiting for his results. His mother Sumathi explained that he was denied science with mathematics due to his initial scores, and they hoped the supplementary exam would open doors for medical studies. He eventually accepted the stream offered by his school and started attending classes last week.

School administrators noted that this pattern was common. A private school principal in Chennai stated that many students missed weeks of education while waiting, and that the exercise strained resources as teachers were pulled from classrooms for evaluation.

The supplementary exams were introduced as part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which mandates two board examinations for Class 10 from 2026. The policy allows students to take a second exam to improve their scores, with the best of the two being used for final results. However, the delay in announcing results this year has led to gaps in learning and uncertainty.

Parents expressed frustration over the lack of communication from CBSE. R. Gururajan, a parent, said he checked the CBSE website daily for updates but received no official information, causing prolonged anxiety. Despite these challenges, the board has not commented on the delay or future timelines.
