CBI Raids 14 Locations in Uttar Pradesh Over Alleged Embezzlement of ₹4 Crore from Basic Education Department

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted searches at 14 locations across Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday in connection with an alleged embezzlement of approximately ₹4 crore from the state's Basic Education Department. The searches were carried out in Lucknow, Ayodhya, Kushinagar, Pratapgarh, and Amethi, according to an agency spokesperson.

The action follows a case registered by the CBI on June 8, acting on the directives of the Allahabad High Court. The investigation pertains to allegations that a junior accounts clerk, in conspiracy with other accused individuals, illegally diverted funds from the government treasury to various bank accounts.

The FIR names the junior accounts clerk and other co-accused, though their identities have not been publicly disclosed by the agency. The alleged embezzlement took place in Amethi's Gauriganj block, where the funds meant for basic education were reportedly siphoned off through fraudulent means.

During the searches, CBI officials examined documents, electronic records, and other evidence at the premises of the accused. The agency has not yet disclosed the specifics of the recoveries made during the raids. The investigation is ongoing, and the CBI is expected to question several individuals in the coming days.

The Basic Education Department in Uttar Pradesh oversees primary and upper primary schools, and any misappropriation of its funds directly affects the educational infrastructure and resources for children. The alleged scam came to light after complaints were filed, leading to the high court's intervention for a CBI probe.

The CBI has registered the case under sections related to criminal conspiracy, cheating, and forgery, among others. No arrests have been reported so far. The agency has stated that further investigative steps will be taken based on the evidence gathered during the searches.
