CBI Honours 21 Personnel with President's Medals on Independence Day
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has announced that 21 of its personnel have been conferred with the President's Medal for Distinguished Service and the Medal for Meritorious Service. The honours were announced on the occasion of Independence Day, in line with the annual tradition of recognising the contributions of law enforcement officers.
Six personnel have been awarded the President's Medal for Distinguished Service, while 15 have been granted the Medal for Meritorious Service. These medals are among the highest recognitions for police personnel in India, acknowledging their dedication, professionalism, and exemplary service.
The President's Medal for Distinguished Service was conferred upon Assistant Inspector General of Police Shobha Dutta, Additional Superintendent of Police Manoj Banerjee, Additional Superintendent of Police Ginni Rana, Deputy Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Samal, Assistant Sub-Inspector Ramesh Chand, and Assistant Sub-Inspector Madan Lal Dhiman.
The Medal for Meritorious Service has been awarded to Deputy Legal Adviser Brijesh Singh; Senior System Analyst Girish Joshi; Deputy Superintendents of Police Manoj Kumar, Om Prakash Chandra, Zahir Akhtar Ansari, and Ashish Anand; Inspector Sarita Yadav; Sub-Inspector Roshan Kumar; Assistant Sub-Inspector Dilbar Singh Bisht; Head Constables Balkar Singh, Govind Singh Bisht, and Kamlesh Kumar Gurjar; and Constables Pal Pandian R, Ajay Kumar Singh, and Kalyanadurgam Samiullah.
These medals are conferred by the President of India and are typically announced twice a year, on Republic Day and Independence Day. The President's Medal for Distinguished Service is meant for officers who have displayed exceptional courage or extraordinary devotion to duty, while the Medal for Meritorious Service is awarded for valuable service of a high order. The names were included in the official list of honours approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The CBI, as the premier investigation agency of India, handles complex cases relating to corruption, economic offences, and other serious crimes. The awardees come from diverse roles within the agency, including legal advisory, systems analysis, investigation, and field operations, reflecting the multi-disciplinary nature of its work. The list also includes officers from various ranks, from constables to senior supervisors, highlighting the recognition of contributions at every level of the organisation.
Among the distinguished recipients are two women officers, Assistant Inspector General of Police Shobha Dutta and Additional Superintendent of Police Ginni Rana, underscoring the increasing role of women in senior positions within Indian law enforcement. The awards are traditionally presented at a formal ceremony, the schedule for which has not yet been announced. The CBI has not released any further details regarding the event.
