Bus Overturns in Andhra Pradesh: 14 Injured, No Fatalities

Fourteen persons were injured after an Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) bus overturned into a roadside ditch near Madduluru village in Santhanutalapadu mandal of Prakasam district on Saturday morning. No fatalities were reported, and none of the injured sustained life-threatening injuries, according to the police.

The bus, bearing registration number AP 39 TF 1589, was travelling from Kondapi to Ongole. It lost control and overturned at around 8.45 a.m. while giving way to an oncoming bus, police said.

The vehicle was carrying approximately 70 passengers at the time of the accident. The Cheemakurthi Circle Inspector, Santhanutalapadu Sub-Inspector, police personnel, and local residents rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to the Government Hospital at Kondapi in 108 ambulances. Some of the injured were later referred to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Hospital in Ongole for further treatment.

Social Welfare Minister Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy, accompanied by Ongole MLA Damacharla Janardhana Rao, visited the hospital and enquired about the condition of the injured passengers, including a woman conductor who was also hurt in the accident. The Minister said it was fortunate that all passengers had escaped with minor injuries and assured that the government was ensuring quality medical care for those undergoing treatment.

Mr. Swamy said he had informed Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy about the accident and assured that medical treatment would be provided until all the injured recovered fully.

Mr. Ramprasad Reddy spoke to APSRTC and Prakasam district officials over the phone to review the situation. He directed them to ensure immediate medical assistance and provide advanced treatment to the seriously injured woman conductor. The Transport Minister also ordered a comprehensive inquiry into the cause of the accident and directed officials to strengthen safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
