Bullet Train Proposal: Jewar-Lucknow in 100 Minutes, Says Minister

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated on Saturday that the proposed Delhi-Varanasi bullet train corridor would reduce travel time between Jewar and Lucknow to 1 hour and 40 minutes. The minister made the comment during a programme in Jewar.

According to Vaishnaw, once the high-speed rail corridor becomes operational, the journey from Delhi to Lucknow would take approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes. The Delhi-Varanasi bullet train is a proposed project that would pass through Jewar, which is also the site of the upcoming Noida International Airport.

The project was first announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Union Budget for 2026-27. However, the plan remains at a preliminary stage, and no timeline for construction has been officially confirmed.

India's first high-speed rail corridor, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train, is currently under construction. The Delhi-Varanasi corridor would be the second such project if approved. Officials have noted that detailed feasibility studies and land acquisition processes are still pending.

Travel time estimates provided by the minister are based on planned speeds of up to 350 km per hour. Actual travel times may vary depending on final route alignment, station stops, and operational factors.
