BRS Leader KTR Accuses Congress Government of Neglecting Drought Preparedness
HYDERABAD: Working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), K.T. Rama Rao, on Monday alleged that the Congress government in Telangana failed to adequately address drought conditions resulting from the El Nino effect, despite advance warnings from meteorologists.
Speaking at a party meeting to admit a businessman from Banswada constituency, Moril Srinivas Rao, into the BRS, Rao criticised the government's response to the forecasts. He claimed that water levels in most reservoirs were at or below dead storage, while government action remained lacking.
Rao further accused the Congress government of betraying various sections of the electorate, citing a failure to fill 2 lakh jobs in its first year. He specifically targeted sitting Banswada legislator Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, who had defected from the BRS to Congress, suggesting that Mr. Reddy could not clarify his party affiliation to constituents.
The BRS leader stated that the people of Banswada would vote against Mr. Reddy in the next election and would support any candidate fielded by the BRS. He also took aim at Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, accusing him of focusing only on trips to Delhi and criticizing former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) without delivering on promises.
“Except for abusing KCR and taking vows in the name of god to make promises, Mr. Revanth Reddy had no other work. As a result, the agriculture sector had been pushed into crisis over the last two years,” Mr. Rama Rao said, adding that the Chief Minister had failed to fulfil any of the six guarantees and other promises.
Regarding the Kaleshwaram project, Rao questioned the government's sincerity in rehabilitation efforts, pointing to the failure to repair damaged sections of the Medigadda barrage. He alleged that the government missed an opportunity to lift water from the Godavari river without closing the barrage gates, thereby depriving farmers of a reliable crop.
Party leaders V. Prashanth Reddy, Bajireddy Goverdhan, Hanumanth Shinde, and A. Jeevan Reddy also attended the meeting.
