Brendon McCullum steps down as England Test coach, retains white-ball role

The England and Wales Cricket Board on Sunday announced that Brendon McCullum will step down as head coach of the England Test team but will continue to lead the white-ball sides.

McCullum, who took over the Test role in 2022, led the team through a period of aggressive play under the 'Bazball' approach. The board's statement confirmed the change, with McCullum expressing gratitude for the experience.

'I've absolutely loved coaching the Test side and I'm incredibly proud of what we've achieved together. There've been some unbelievable highs and a few tough days along the way, but that's all part of taking on a challenge like this. It's been a privilege and an honour, and I'm grateful. Grateful to the players, the staff and the fans who supported us on the journey,' McCullum said.

The decision comes after a series of mixed results in Test cricket, including a recent Ashes series loss in Australia. No immediate successor has been named for the Test role.
