BPCL launches Bharatgas Lite ZIP: 10kg composite LPG cylinder with 4-hour delivery
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has introduced a new premium LPG offering, Bharatgas Lite ZIP, in Mangaluru and 29 other cities across India. The product, launched on July 31, combines a 10kg fibre composite cylinder with a technology-driven service model designed for speed and convenience.
The Lite ZIP is positioned as a next-generation customer-centric solution from BPCL. It allows consumers to obtain a new LPG connection through a simplified digital onboarding process, and promises delivery of cylinders within four hours of booking. The lightweight composite cylinder is corrosion-free and transparent, allowing users to see the gas level at a glance.
According to BPCL, the cylinder's design makes handling easier, particularly for elderly users and those living in multi-storey buildings. The composite material also enhances safety and durability compared to traditional steel cylinders.
The launch in Mangaluru was jointly organised by Anupama Gas Distributors and Kamadhenu Gas Agency at the former's premises. The first batch of 10kg cylinders was handed over to 15 customers during the event. BPCL Territory Manager (LPG) Sandeep Kumar Raina said the Corporation is committed to delivering customer-centric, technology-enabled solutions that enhance everyday life. Kamadhenu Agency proprietor Dinesh Kumar Shetty and Anupama Distributors proprietors Amrutha and Suresh Kumar were also present.
BPCL plans to expand the Lite ZIP service to 70 more cities in 24 States by August 15, with a subsequent nationwide rollout across all major cities. As of July 31, the price for a 10kg cylinder was ₹4,812. This pricing includes the composite cylinder's higher manufacturing cost compared to conventional steel cylinders.
The introduction of composite LPG cylinders is part of a broader industry trend towards safer, lighter and more environmentally friendly alternatives. The transparent body of the Lite ZIP is expected to reduce the risk of running out of gas unexpectedly, while the fibre composite material is resistant to rust and corrosion.
Consumers currently using traditional 14.2kg cylinders may find the 10kg option more convenient for smaller households, as it requires less storage space and is easier to handle. The four-hour delivery promise is a significant improvement over standard LPG delivery times in many urban areas.
BPCL's move is seen as competitive, as other oil marketing companies have also been exploring composite cylinder technology. However, the Lite ZIP's combination of instant connection and express delivery sets it apart in the domestic LPG market. The service model is designed for urban consumers who prioritise speed and ease of booking.
The company has not announced any changes to its existing Bharatgas Lite service, which offers a 5kg composite cylinder. The new Lite ZIP targeting households requiring a larger capacity. BPCL officials said the rollout will be monitored to ensure smooth operations and customer satisfaction.
As LPG penetration in India continues to grow, innovations like the Lite ZIP are likely to play a role in improving the customer experience. The product aligns with the government's push for clean cooking fuel while addressing common consumer complaints about cylinder weight, visibility of fuel level, and delivery delays.
