BMTC bus sexual harassment case: Police search for accused after viral video shows confrontation
The Sampigehalli police have registered a case of sexual harassment and are searching for an unidentified man after a video went viral showing a woman passenger and a BMTC bus driver confronting him over allegations of molestation inside a moving bus on Friday (July 24, 2026).
Police said an FIR has been registered at the Sampigehalli Police Station based on the incident, and efforts are underway to identify and trace the accused. The man is yet to be apprehended, and police have urged the public to provide any information.
The incident is reported to have occurred on July 24 afternoon aboard BMTC bus route No. 500D/40, which was travelling via Manyata Tech Park near Nagawara. According to police, the woman alleged that the man had inappropriately touched her during the journey.
The viral video, recorded by a fellow passenger, shows the woman confronting, slapping and beating the suspect. The bus driver is also seen intervening, kicking the man and allegedly removing his shirt after stopping the bus and closing both doors when the suspect attempted to flee. Other passengers are heard urging that the accused be taught a lesson.
The video timestamp indicates that the incident occurred at around 12.42 p.m. According to eyewitnesses, the woman immediately alerted the driver after the alleged harassment.
The clip was widely shared on social media with a message claiming the suspect had allegedly been boarding BMTC buses on the Hebbal–Manyata route and targeting women passengers by touching them inappropriately. The post urged the public to alert police if they spotted the man.
Police are now coordinating with BMTC officials to gather further details and identify the suspect. The accused got off the bus at the Manyata Tech Park bus stop. Authorities have cautioned against taking the law into one's own hands and have stressed that the legal process will determine the truth.
