BJP Demands Apology from Opposition for Twisting Rajnath Singh's Remarks
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday accused opposition parties of deliberately misrepresenting remarks made by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and demanded an apology for what it called an insult to the nation's bravehearts.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said the opposition had twisted Rajnath Singh's statement to score political points. “The opposition owes an apology to the bravehearts of our armed forces for their malicious distortion of the Defence Minister’s words,” Patra said.
The controversy erupted after Rajnath Singh, during an event, made comments about the sacrifices of soldiers. While the exact wording of his remarks has been disputed, the BJP maintains that the opposition selectively quoted him out of context to create a false narrative.
“Our Defence Minister has always honoured and respected the armed forces. To suggest otherwise is a calculated lie,” Patra added. He further alleged that the opposition's actions were part of a pattern of undermining national security institutions for political gain.
Opposition leaders, however, defended their criticism, stating that Rajnath Singh’s remarks were clear and needed no misinterpretation. Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said, “The BJP is again trying to deflect attention from the actual words of the Defence Minister. We stand by our critique and demand that the government clarify its position.”
Political analysts note that such exchanges have become common in the highly charged political atmosphere, with both sides accusing each other of twisting facts. The BJP’s demand for an apology is seen as an attempt to reclaim the narrative ahead of upcoming state elections.
As of now, no opposition party has tendered an apology. The issue is likely to be raised in Parliament when the session resumes.
