Bihar NEET Re-test: 30 Arrested in Impersonation Racket Involving MBBS Students and Biometric Staff

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) re-examination, held on June 21 at four centres in Lakhisarai district of Bihar, was marred by an alleged impersonation racket. Police have arrested 30 individuals, including dummy candidates, facilitators, and personnel involved in biometric verification.

According to a statement from Lakhisarai police, centre superintendents, magistrates, and police personnel were deployed to ensure the examination's fairness. However, authorities received information that attempts were being made to seat fake candidates in place of genuine aspirants.

Following verification by centre superintendents, static teams, and flying squads, a special team was formed under the supervision of the Sub-Divisional Officer and Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Lakhisarai. The team conducted detailed checks at the examination venues, leading to the arrests.

The NEET re-test was ordered after irregularities were reported in the original examination held earlier this month. The National Testing Agency (NTA) had scheduled the re-test for candidates from affected centres. The incident highlights ongoing challenges in ensuring the integrity of high-stakes entrance examinations in India.
