BHAVINI Seeks Industry Partners for Fast Breeder Reactor Expansion

Bharatiya Nabhikiya Vidyut Nigam Limited (BHAVINI), a public sector undertaking under the Department of Atomic Energy, organized an 'Industry Partnership Conclave for Fast Breeder Reactor (FBR) Expansion' in Mamallapuram on Friday.

Speaking at the event, P.A. Suresh Babu, Chairman and Managing Director of BHAVINI, said that the achievement of criticality by the Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) marked a defining moment in India's nuclear energy journey. He emphasized the need for a partnership-driven approach to expand the FBR programme, which is crucial for achieving long-term energy security and the goal of an Atmanirbhar Bharat.

The conclave brought together senior representatives from leading public and private sector industries, technology partners, equipment manufacturers, and engineering organisations. Discussions focused on collaboration opportunities for the expansion of fast breeder reactors, which play a key role in India's three-stage nuclear power programme.

Fast breeder reactors are designed to produce more fissile material than they consume, thus enhancing fuel efficiency. India's nuclear programme aims to utilize thorium reserves through this technology, ensuring sustainable energy for the future.
