Bengaluru resident details monthly living expenses in 1BHK: Rent Rs 36,000
A product manager in Bengaluru has shared a detailed breakdown of her monthly expenses, offering a view into the cost of living alone in the city. Shruti, who resides in the HSR Layout neighbourhood, posted a video online in response to frequent queries about her rent and lifestyle.
In the video, Shruti explained that she pays Rs 36,000 per month for a one-bedroom apartment. She also spends around Rs 5,000 per month on rented household appliances and furniture. Utilities and housekeeping services together cost approximately Rs 4,000 per month.
Food expenses, largely home-cooked to maintain a healthy diet, range between Rs 7,000 and Rs 8,000. Transportation costs, including daily commute, amount to about Rs 4,000–5,000. Fitness activities such as gym memberships and Pilates classes add another Rs 5,000. Shruti noted that discretionary spending on dining out and shopping varies and was not fully disclosed.
Her post quickly drew attention, with many users comparing their own living costs in Bengaluru. Some found the breakdown relatable, appreciating her transparency about spending on convenience and lifestyle. Others suggested that nearly Rs 60,000 in monthly living expenses might be optimised through financial planning or choosing less expensive neighbourhoods.
Reactions included practical tips like carpooling to reduce transport costs, and observations that rents in nearby areas may be lower while still providing similar amenities. The discussion highlights ongoing conversations about urban affordability and lifestyle choices in India's metropolitan cities.
