Bengaluru Police Sub-Inspector Arrested Under Pocso for Alleged Abuse of Minors

Bengaluru: A police sub-inspector (PSI) has been arrested and booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act for allegedly sexually abusing minor boys while conducting an interrogation, officials said on Monday.

The accused officer, identified as PSI Praveen, was taken into custody after a video of the alleged abuse surfaced on social media, prompting an internal inquiry. He has been suspended, along with a constable accused of assisting him.

According to police sources, the incident is said to have occurred about a year ago. Praveen had detained the minor boys in connection with an investigation. Instead of following prescribed legal procedures for questioning minors, he allegedly took them to a lodge, assaulted them, and forced them to perform obscene acts, which he recorded on his mobile phone.

The case was registered under the Pocso Act, which provides for stringent punishment for sexual offences against children. The Karnataka Police have initiated a departmental inquiry and assured a thorough investigation into the matter.

This incident has raised concerns about police accountability and the protection of children in custody. Authorities have urged anyone with further information to come forward.
