Bengaluru Police Files FIR Against JD(S) Social Media Pages Over Alleged Morphed Video of CM Shivakumar

The Bengaluru police on Saturday registered a First Information Report (FIR) against several social media pages linked to the Janata Dal (Secular) over the posting of an alleged morphed video of Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar.

The FIR was lodged at the Sadashivanagar police station following a complaint by Deepu C R, a member of the Congress party's legal cell. The case has been registered under Section 192 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

According to the complaint, on June 17, the official JD(S) Facebook page and a page titled 'Kumaraswamy for CM' posted a video with a caption that read: “Old habits start again. A trait born with someone cannot be washed away even if they are burnt.” The complainant alleged that the video was derogatory and morphed to defame the Chief Minister.

Police officials confirmed that they are investigating the matter and will take appropriate legal action after verifying the allegations. The JD(S) has not yet issued an official response to the FIR.

This incident is the latest in a series of political clashes between the ruling Congress and the opposition JD(S) in Karnataka, with both parties accusing each other of using social media to spread misinformation.
